Consistency Is The Key To The Starbuck Coffee Taste

You can travel anywhere in the world and get the same cup of Starbuck coffee wherever you go. The Starbucks Corporation is currently the largest multinational chain of coffee houses in the world. The Starbuck brand began in 1971 as a coffee bean retailer. It grew into the popular coffee house giant known today. Starbucks coffee houses primarily serve espresso and drip brewed coffee drinks. Some locations provide tea and other beverages, as well as sandwiches and pastries.

The first Starbucks coffee shop was opened in 1971 in Seattle, Washington. The company concentrated on selling coffee beans. Oddly enough, the owners felt that selling coffee drinks would distract from the bean business. The company member who suggested selling coffee in-house started his own chain, which later bought the Starbucks chain. When the Starbucks coffee shop chain issued its initial stock offering in 1992, it was reported that there were 165 outlets.

Current sources list more than 7,000 Starbucks coffee shops around the world. About 20% of those are outside the U.S. Some of the Starbucks shops are operated by the company, while the remainder are licensed or franchised. The company takes great pains to ensure the quality and consistency of its products. Every Starbucks blend has its own group of fans, and those coffee drinkers expect that blend to taste the same regardless of the location of the shop.

Like any large and successful company, the Starbuck brand has its share of detractors. Local coffee house owners sometimes resent the apparent intrusion of a Starbuck shop into their territory. What appears to be a simple business decision by a corporation can seem to be a hostile move by a local, family-owned coffee shop. Those determinations can only be made by the parties involved, with each side undoubtedly convinced it is right. Competition is one of the realities of the modern coffee shop business.

Even non-coffee drinkers have heard of Starbucks, and can probably even pick out the logo. Imagine, though, if the original owners had stuck by their decision not to brew and sell coffee. Many coffee drinkers would be missing their favorite latte or espresso from their neighborhood Starbuck coffee shop.
